Baby Nursery Walls and Windows
Decorated walls and windows tie a baby nursery together and give it a finished look. Once you’ve decided on a theme and color scheme for your baby’s room, it’s time to translate that concept into baby nursery walls.
When choosing colors and a theme, don’t feel limited by the traditional pinks and blues (or yellows and greens for neutral rooms). Nursery curtains and bedding sets are available in hundreds of different color combinations and themes to help you design a nursery as unique as your baby.
Baby Nursery Walls
Expectant parents have many different options for designing the walls of a nursery. Some parents choose to paint, and others prefer to use wallpaper in a color or print that coordinates with the crib bedding. If you can’t paint or use wallpaper, you can deck the walls with less obvious options, such as the following:
- Canvas mural: If you’re the artistic type, get a large sheet of pre-stretched canvas and paint a mural on it before hanging it on the wall. This is a modification of the popular wall mural for nurseries, and in a lot of ways it’s a better option because you don’t have to worry about painting over it when your baby outgrows the nursery.
- Decals for walls: Most craft stores and many department stores sell wallpaper borders or decals for walls that you can attach without going to the trouble of painting or wallpapering the whole room.
- Fabric: Select embroidery hoops in varying sizes, outfit them with different colors and prints of fabric, and hang them on the walls. Or simply hang large pieces of fabric on the wall to give the nursery color.
- Monograms: A growing trend is to purchase large, colorful wooden letters that spell out the baby’s name and hang them on a wall.
Nursery Painting Ideas
Painting is a traditional and versatile way to add color to the walls. Spruce up the baby’s room by painting in bright primary colors, or try fun design nursery painting ideas like alternating colors or painting a striped pattern. If you like the idea of a mural but don’t want to buy a canvas, you can paint a mural for your baby right on the wall.
Nursery Window Treatments
Every nursery needs blinds or curtains so the room can be dark when the baby is taking a nap. When you choose nursery curtains, make sure they coordinate with the rest of the room. And, measure the window before shopping–nursery window treatments that are too small can make the room look shabby, and overly long curtains can overpower the window. The right nursery curtains can really complete a nursery, so choose carefully.
