Baby Nursery Decorations
Once you’ve selected furniture and bedding for your baby’s nursery, it’s time to add the finishing touches with some fun nursery decorating ideas. Learn about how to use baby nursery decorations, such as nursery wall art, nursery table lamps and baby nursery wall art, to tie your new baby’s nursery together.
Nursery Wall Art
New parents have almost unlimited options when it comes to nursery wall art. In addition to traditional paint or wallpaper, you may consider other nursery decorating ideas on the walls, including:
- Decals: You can find decals or stencils at most craft or baby stores and use them to custom-design nursery wall art.
- Monograms: Complement other baby nursery decorations by spelling out your baby’s name in large, colorful block letters hanging on the wall.
- Mural: If you’re the artistic type (or you have a friend who is), consider painting a unique mural on an entire wall of the nursery.
Nursery Table Lamps
Table lamps in the nursery add a decorative touch. Plus, they’re practical–when you get up for a late-night feeding, the last thing you want is a bright overhead light. Nursery table lamps provide a soft glow that’s easier on the eyes.
Ideally, you should have at least two table lamps–one near the changing table and one near the crib. Make sure that the nursery table lamps are high enough to provide enough light for you, but that the light isn’t at your baby’s eye level.
Table lamps are available in hundreds of different colors and styles to coordinate with your other baby nursery decorations. If possible, choose simple, neutral-colored nursery table lamps so that you can use them in other rooms once your child outgrows the nursery.
Baby Nursery Mobiles
Mobiles serve a dual purpose–they lull babies to sleep and also entertain them when they’re in the crib. Well-designed baby nursery mobiles will stimulate a baby’s:
- Concentration
- Hearing
- Motor skills
- Sight
- Sound recognition
- Visual skills.
Baby nursery mobiles should be visually appealing, with contrasting colors and shapes. Ideally, they should include a few black and white pieces, because infants recognize these colors first. Choose a mobile that plays soothing, classical music to help the baby go to sleep. Remote-controlled baby nursery mobiles are very convenient, as parents can turn them on while standing outside the room, minimizing disturbance for the baby.
Depending on your nursery’s theme, you should be able to find a nursery mobile that coordinates with the rest of your baby nursery decorations. Mobiles are available in a variety of colors and themes and often feature familiar characters.
