Closet Organization Products: Your Options
Closets are an important source of storage space in your home. However, they’re only truly effective if they’re well organized. If you find your closet does not meet your needs, consider a closet remodel. Choosing the right closet organization products to fit your needs is an important part of an effective closet remodel, and will maximize your space and allow you better access to the items in your closet.
Bedroom Closets
Bedroom closets are the subject of many closet remodels. Organization ideas should come from the items you have. In particular, focus on finding organization products for the items that are disorganized or difficult to find in your current closet system. Organizational items are available for both accessories and clothing.
Many options are available for accessories of all types:
- Shoe racks for multiple pairs of shoes, which can go on the floor or over the door
- Specialty hangers for multiple pairs of pants, ties or belts
- Trays for jewelry or watches.
Clothing can also be stored in specialty organizers, including:
- Drawer dividers to divide large drawers, especially for storage of small items, such as socks
- Drawers added to the closet to hold folded items or accessories
- Racks or hooks mounted to the wall for hanging hats or handbags
- Shelves to provide extra area for folded items or baskets holding smaller items.
Hall and Kitchen Closets
Organization products are also available for hall and kitchen closets. Airtight containers can be helpful in kitchen closets or pantries. Open bags and boxes can be messy and even attract pests. Airtight canisters:
- Conserve space
- Have clear sides that allow you to see their contents
- Keep food from spoiling.
Kitchen and hall closets can also benefit from adding shelves. Some closets or pantries have large areas of wasted space between the shelves. Additional shelves give the closet more surface area, and allow you to store a greater number of items without having to stack them on top of each other.
Built-In Custom Closets
Along with the readily available pre-made organization products, some people choose to create a custom built-in closet system, such as a walk in closet. Built-in products are specialized and can look more substantial (like a piece of furniture) than closets redesigned with off-the-shelf products. However, the purpose and results of both types of systems are very similar. Both are meant to provide more specific and tailored storage for your items, beyond the all-too-common single rack and single shelf.
Whatever you choose, a closet remodel–custom or off-the-shelf–can help you to make better use of your closet space.
